The Love Prison Made and Unmade: My Story
Having had little luck in love previously, educator and activist Ebony Roberts falls hard for the intellectual, charismatic Shaka. The two have much in common, including painful pasts and interest in Black liberation movements, but their budding relationship is complicated by the fact that Shaka is serving time in prison for second-degree murder. Ebony does an impressive job of standing by her man and preparing for his eventual release, but the strong fantasy component of their relationship make it unable to withstand the rigors of everyday life. This cautionary tale is well-told and vivid.
